Amazon Prime, a service launched by Amazon.com in 2005 has since become known for offering a large amount of benefits to those of us that enjoy the convenience of the largest internet based retailer in the world. One of the major benefits for Prime members is they have access to specific Prime only pricing on select items. Recently Amazon has decided to expand this benefit with the role out of a new Amazon exclusive deal revolving around select smartphones. This new deal allows Prime members to buy select smartphones for a discounted price while adding special offers and ads to the smartphone’s lock screen. These select phones also come with a selection of apps including Amazon’s own app store pre-installed on the devices. All smartphones are GSM unlocked allowing them to be used on any compatible mobile service carrier.

Currently this new deal is only offered on two smartphones the Blu R1 HD and the Motorola Moto G (4th Generation). Each of these phones are listed with a $50.00 discount with multiple configurations that affect the final price Prime members will pay for the smartphone

BLU R1 HD

The Blu R1 HD is currently offered in two different configurations and is only offered in black. The first configuration is priced at $49.99. It offers the user 8GB of internal storage and 1GB of RAM. While the second configuration priced at $59.99 comes with 16GB internal storage and 2GB of RAM. Both configurations of this phone run Android 6.0 Marshmallow while offering an impressive processor for the price with a 1.3 Ghz Mediatek 67365 quad-core processor on board. The R1 also comes with a dual sim configuration allowing it to be used on multiple 4G LTE networks simultaneously or allowing for the second sim slot to be used for an SD card to expand the storage of the R1 by up to 64GB. Now moving to the outside the R1 it sports a 5” inch high definition display with a resolution of 1280x720 made of Gorilla Glass 3 for withstanding those occasional smartphone drops we all have. The R1 also offers two cameras an 8MP rear camera as well as a 5MP selfie camera equipped with front flash. In conclusion, the R1 HD sold normally at a $99.99 price point offers outstanding features and quality and once you add the Prime exclusive discount making the price as low as $49.99 for the 8GB configuration of the phone buying this might as well be stealing.

Moto G4

The Motorola Moto G4 or Moto G(4th Generation) is currently offered in two configurations with both configurations being offered in black. The difference in the two configurations is solely the internal storage offered. With the first configuration at a price of $149.99 offering 16GB of internal storage and the second at a price of $179.99 with 32GB of internal storage. On the inside the G4 runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow, has an outstanding processor with 1.5GHz snapdragon 617 octa-core processor, and 2GB of RAM. Moving to the outside of the device we have an 5.5” full HD display with a 12MP HD rear camera and a 5MP selfie cam. The Moto G4 also support turbo charging which allows the phone to charge at a rate of about 6 hours of usage per 15 minutes of charging. Both configurations offer users an amazing phone at at a normal price at $199.99 it is no wonder the Moto G4 has been crowned the king of budget smartphones and with the introduction of the new deal from amazon making the base model only $149.99 it looks like the Moto G4 will be sitting on the throne for some time to come.

Being a long time fan of both Blu and Motorola, both the R1 HD and Moto G4 have been on my radar as amazing budget Android devices for some time now and with Amazon’s new Prime exclusive deals on both I see them as very lucrative devices for those existing Prime members that are looking for a low to mid range smartphone and don’t mind the extra bloatware and lock screen page ads that Amazon places on the devices. For those that don’t like either of these devices but like the model of these exclusive deals when asked if they will be expanding the number of phones the exclusive deal encompasses Amazon stated “We will see” and left no guarantee that we will see more phones brought into the umbrella of the exclusive deal but we have our fingers crossed they do.
